Artist bio: Henri Masson was born in Belgium in 1907. Immigrating to Ottawa, Canada in 1921, Masson found work as an engraver, soon becoming a master engraver at the age of 25. While visiting the National Gallery of Canada, artist Henri Leopold Masson became intrigued by the painting collections of the Group of Seven, who were famous Canadian landscape painters in the 1920s. Motivated by the brilliance of their paintings, Masson became inspired to paint. He studied at the Ottawa Art Association, however, was mostly self-taught.
In 1936, the artist enjoyed his first solo exhibition at the Ontario Society of Artists in Toronto, exhibiting a selection of idyllic oil paintings. In addition to Masson's landscape paintings for sale, he created captivating still life images and worked in watercolors and pastels.
