Artist bio: Townsend, H. William (Bill) (1940- ). Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Townsend studied at the Vancouver School of Art, Vancouver, British Columbia (1958-1959); at the New York School of Design, New York City, New York (1959-1960); at the University of Wisconsin (1961-1962); oil painting at the Peter Aspell School of Art (1980); and drawing and painting at the Federation of Canadian Artists Art Seminar, Salt Spring Island, British Columbia (1980). Working in oil, and silkscreen, he is known for his mountain landscapes near Banff in Alberta, Yoho National Park in British Columbia, and in the Yukon. He also paints the rainforest and coastal landscape of the Pacific Northwest, and female figures in oil and gold leaf. He has worked in and taught architectural photography (1965-1972). He lives in Nanoose Bay, B. C.
